Considerations in The Anatomy Study

Many students of medical schools use anatomy knowledge only to pass their class. It is, of course, a goal to work with anatomy only with the idea of "passing my class" and is ultimately beautiful. But do not keep your goal small!
What is your aim in preferring the medical school? Being a doctor? Or being a good doctor? What about your specialty? In this context, -in the direction of your aims- it will be useful to consider the following suggestions.
1- Focus on your goal in the anatomy lectures. Why are you in this class, why are you listening to or reading on the topic? You should know that; lectures of basic medical sciences give you convenience in the understanding of clinical sciences lectures and diagnosis - treatment of diseases. Anatomy lectures will also be useful for you to learn about your clinical medical science lectures in further classes. It is not possible to understand abnormal structure (namely pathological) without knowing normal structures. Anatomy gives obligatory information, especially for surgical sciences.
2. Endeavor to participate in the anatomy lectures. Anatomy course -in a good way- can only be learned in the lecture. In the lecture, learning is actively carried out both with our visual and auditory senses. In addition, you can receive the learning objectives, summary and important parts of the subject and some sample questions from an expert of the lecture. You can also consolidate your knowledge with practical courses. These are an advantage for you ...
Do not forget this popular quote, "I hear and I forget, I see and I remember, I do and I understand"!
Repeat the lesson of that day in the evening following the lesson. If your other lectures are intensive, please evaluate the weekends and repeat the topics described in that week from the books or notes. In addition to books or lecture notes, you must have a visual material (atlases, book presentations, or internet). It is very difficult to visualize the information in the book without them.
In the lecture, all the information in the book is not explained. In the lecture, sometimes you will see that the information is not mentioned in the book. For this reason, do not forget to read the book (the old ones use the term "bookishness") and follow the presentations.
It will be useful to study the book by drawing and taking notes. For example; you can make red markings in the first reading, blue in the second reading, and yellow in the third reading. Try to learn primarily the main information, important structures and as superficially; then you can go into detail. Going into detail without learning the basic information will bore you and prevent your information from being kept in memory for a long time (please do not go swimming or dive deep without knowing the swim).
Studying anatomy by solving questions is also a learning method. Eventually, most of the exams consist of multiple-choice questions. Therefore, try to solve the TUS questions about the subject or the questions previously asked in the visa, final and makeup exams. In the test questions, you can have information about the subject by memorizing only the right options.
It may be useful to solve the related test questions before reading the topic. This will help you pass the exams - which is one of your goals- and the success of TUS. But keep your goal big! Try to learn more classical information from the test to become a good doctor and specialist. This is also achieved by reading the book or lecture notes.
Try to memorize some information with a formulary. In our high school information, remember how we memorized the formula of sulfuric acid (H2SO4). We are still keeping those formulas in mind with a logic or fun. You can also memorize some anatomical structures with entertaining, facilitating and invoking methods. For example, the wrist bones (carpal bones, ossa carpea) from the lateral to medial, are scaphoideum, lunatum, triquetrum and pisiforme in the proximal; and are trapezium, trapezoideum, capitatum and hamate bones in the distal. These bones can be remembered as "Sophia Loren Too Pretty, Try To Cath Her".
first, try to know its meaning in Turkish of the anatomical terms. The Latin nomenclature in the human body is made by logic if they are not an eponym. In this nomenclature, firstly try to memorize systems (muscle, skeletal, nervous, etc.), basic organs (heart, liver, brain etc.) and body parts (head, neck, trunk etc.). Subsequent nomenclature may depend on where the formation is located (e.g. brachial artery is the main artery in the arm (brachium)), its shape (such as trapezius muscle) or size (such as gluteus maximus-medius-minimus muscles), etc...
"Doctors without anatomy are like moles. They work in the dark and the work of their hands are mounds." (Friedrich Tiedemann). Please do not forget! A doctor who does not know human anatomy is like a mole. We keep digging in the dark.
In medicine, the principle of "primarily not harming the patient" is important. A bad basic medical knowledge can cause mistakes in diagnosis and treatment. Please do not make any mistakes that may result in malpractice.
Even though I try to describe "the points to be careful when working in anatomy" in this article, these points may be valid for many courses in the medical faculty.
